OPINION

What I think.

ARTPOP is a really good album, and when it works, it works incredibly well. The production is bold, chaotic, and full of personality, and some moments feel completely unique to Gaga. There’s so much creativity here, and I understand why this album became so special to so many people over time.

But the problem is that when a song is bad here, it is eally bad. There are some tracks that I genuinely struggle to enjoy, and they stand out even more because the best songs are on such a different level. The difference in quality between the highs and lows can honestly be kind of crazy.

That inconsistency holds ARTPOP back quite a bit for me, because I can go from absolutely loving what I’m hearing to wanting to skip something immediately. Still, the highlights are strong enough to make the whole project worth it. It’s messy, dramatic, weird, and sometimes frustrating, but that’s also part of what makes ARTPOP feel so much like ARTPOP.
