What I think.
Tina Tuesday Freestyle is a good song, and I think what makes it work the most is Megan’s flow. She sounds really comfortable here, and the production gives her enough space to just rap without needing a huge chorus or some extremely elaborate structure. It is simple, but for a freestyle like this, I don’t think it needs to be much more than that.
I also really like the writing. There are a lot of punchlines, double meanings and little jokes throughout the song that make the lyrics much more fun to actually pay attention to. Megan has always been good at making a line sound funny and threatening at the same time, and there are several moments here where she does exactly that. The song gets more interesting when you actually follow what she is saying instead of just listening to the beat.
The return of Tina Snow also makes sense with this kind of song. It brings back that more direct and confident side of Megan without feeling like she is trying extremely hard to recreate an old song. The Houston influence in the production fits that really well too, so the whole thing feels pretty natural for her.
There honestly isn’t that much more I need from Tina Tuesday Freestyle. It is not some huge reinvention of Megan, and I don’t think it is supposed to be. The flow is interesting, the writing has some really good wordplay, the production works, and Megan sounds completely comfortable doing what she does best. It is simply a good freestyle and a nice way to bring Tina Snow back.
