What I think.
Expectations was already a really enjoyable song, but this remix is honestly such a good addition. I was really curious to hear what Chappell Roan would bring to it, and I'm happy that her participation actually makes a difference. Sometimes a remix with another artist feels like they just added a new voice to a song that didn't really need one, but I don't get that feeling here at all.
I think Chappell was a really good choice for this particular song. She has such a recognizable personality as an artist, and hearing her alongside Olivia makes the track feel a little different without taking away what was already good about it. The original still has its own identity, and the remix doesn't try to replace that. It just gives us another version that is genuinely worth listening to.
And I also love that this collaboration makes sense beyond the song itself. Olivia and Chappell already have a history together, so having them collaborate feels much more natural than simply choosing another popular artist to attract attention. Of course, that alone wouldn't make the remix good, but I think it adds something nice to the whole release.
Sonically, I find this version so pleasant to listen to. It's one of those songs that doesn't need to be extremely complicated or have some huge production change to be enjoyable. The voices work really well together, the song flows naturally, and Chappell brings enough of her own character to make me want to come back to this version specifically.
I also appreciate that the remix doesn't completely change the original song just to prove that it's different. Sometimes I actually prefer when a collaboration respects what made the first version work and focuses on adding something meaningful to it. And that's exactly what I like about Expectations. It still feels like Olivia's song, but Chappell has a real presence in it.
Honestly, I think this was a great choice for the first remix. It's fun, really nice to listen to, and most importantly, it feels justified. Chappell genuinely adds something, which is all I really wanted from this collaboration. I already liked Expectations, but this version gives me another reason to keep listening to it, and I would love for the next remixes to be just as good.
